ERIE 115MD: NLW's masterpiece, born after 10 years of development
Cast all day across the vast Great Lakes. Keep swimming even in the strong current of the Niagara River. We wanted a jerkbait that could handle such extreme conditions, and that's how development of the Erie 115MD began.
Development started in late fall 2012. Through years of trial and error, the Erie 115MD matured slowly but surely into a lure versatile enough to target any species in any kind of water.
Try it for bass, but also for trout and saltwater fishing. And of course for pike, perch and zander in Europe.
Action
On a steady retrieve it swims with a lively, crisp rolling action, and a light jerk produces a lifelike darting action.
Included outer weight
The outer weight for adjusting buoyancy comes standard with the Erie 115MD.
It cuts easily with scissors or pliers for a perfect suspend tune.
It also works for adjusting the buoyancy of many other lures.

The Erie 115MD has a longer lip than the SD and bites the water harder, so it tends to dive a little deeper with each jerk.
With the full weight, it dives as deep as 3.9 meters.
Since the Erie 115 has an outer weight system, many people probably wonder whether the Erie 115SD could reach the same depth with extra weight.
It can: by adding an outer weight to make it slow-sinking, the Erie 115SD can also fish deeper.
But it doesn't dive with every jerk like the Erie 115MD, and with its short lip it tends to rise back up with each jerk, even if you let it sink deep.
So for exploring deeper areas efficiently, the Erie 115MD is clearly more effective and easier to use.
The Erie 115MD also stays horizontal even when it's right under the boat with the line straight down. From there, each vertical jerk sends it darting sideways, and it settles back into a level posture.
That means you can cast, jerk and keep attracting fish all the way back to the boat, even when the lure is directly below you.
And as Nishine showed on Instagram, a little trick is to add two outer weights.

The lure sinks faster and gets down to deeper water sooner, so you can fish a jerkbait effectively deeper than 5 meters!
Bites often come when the lure reaches the boat and its head turns up to head back toward the surface.
